During the fall of 2007 I was reading Robert G. Allen’s book – “Mulitple Streams of Internet Income”, and it completely transformed the course of my life.

I can still remember reading his book and reaching a page that mentioned going to the computer and setting up a free website in less than 10 minutes. After reading that passage my inclination was to put it off and do it tomorrow. As I read further down the page Robert reiterated, if you haven’t set up your site …. do it now.

Robert G AllenWell I got off my butt and just like he had said within less than 10 minutes I had a website. Today that site no longer exists but I remember it was a site with hundreds of products similar to Best Buy. This site allowed the name of the store to be customized as well as the color scheme and logo. The objective was to drive visitors to the site and earn commissions when visitors purchased from the site.

The big lesson here was to Take Immediate Action.

After setting up that site, I remember going into work the next day and being so proud of “having a website”. I was telling eveyone about it. The site was very clean for being a template and it made me look like a genius even though I didn’t know anything about web design or Internet Marketing.

When you take action and produce something it’s the greatest feeling. Even though I hadn’t make one penny I felt like a million bucks!

This experience set off a chain of events that lead me to learn everything I could about Internet Marketing, SEO, Paid Search and Affiliate Marketing.

Below is an except from Robert G. Allen’s book – “Multiple Streams of Internet Income” Reading this intro had me hooked from the first sentence. By the time I was finished reading this it was game over! – I had finally discovered what I wanted to do with my life.

Imagine making money while you sleep. Imagine waking up richer every morning than when you went to bed the night before.

Imagine receiving streams of money from people all over the world.

Imagine a business that operates on autopilot- whether you show up or not.

Imagine low overhead and high profits.

Imagine operating your business from exotic worldwide locations – from a cell phone on the beach in Tahiti or from your laptop in a restaurant atop the Eiffel Tower.

If you can imagine these things, you can achieve them using the vehicle of the Internet.” – Robert G. Allen

Step One: Stretch Your Vision

Step Two: Take Action

Wish you the best,

Robert Avila

PS. The book in the image is actually another one of Robert’s books. The one I am discussing in this post is titled “Multiple Streams of Internet Income” and has been revised so the cover will look a little different.

Google Content Campaign Optimization

Once you have your Google Content Campaigns up and running, now it’s time to track your performance and optimize your campaigns. Your goal is to identify what sites are driving the most relevant traffic and conversions. Understanding your conversion metrics here is key.

You will also notice that your CTR is going to be higher on search campaigns than what you’ll see in content, since the behavior of users is different. This difference will influence your quality score so the quality scores for search and content are kept separate. One last note …. Targeting happens at the ad group and not the keyword level.

Wish you the best,

Robert Avila

Introduction to Google’s Content Network

Why advertise on the Google Content Network?

While users are online they spend 5% of their time searching the other 95% engaged in other activities such as: reading blogs, shopping, visiting social media websites etc.

If you are focused only on paid search you are focusing on the 5%.

The Google Content Network is your opportunity to reach that other 95%.

This video will introduce you to the Google Content Network, targeting options: contextual and placement, category exclusion and the placement performance reports.

Have an awesome day!

SMX Advanced 2009 – Seattle

Our Search Marketing Team had the opportunity to attend this years SMX Advanced conference in Seattle on June 2nd and 3rd. This was the first SMX conference I have attended and I highly recommend putting next years event on your calendar.

SMX Advanced 2009Usually I attend conferences that focus primarily on Internet Marketing entrepreneurial ventures, so I really didn’t know what to expect. During the first day of the event, I quickly realized that this event had a diverse group of attendees. There were SEM and SEO professionals from agencies, corporations, as well as consultants, affiliates and entrepreneurs.

There was a ton of information from some brilliant minds in search and there was one topic that really stood out for me from those 2 days of intense sessions.

“It’s an Ad Group – Not a Keyword Group” – This concept was presented by Craig Danuloff of Clickequations (now Acquisio).

The moment I heard this it was an ah-ha moment.

Craig discussed the importance of understanding the intent behind search queries and how ads should be written to match those queries. We often have a tendency to group keywords together and then … as an after thought create ad copy. So it’s not a question of how many keywords should be in an ad group, the importance lies on will queries on those keywords be served with relevant ads!

Thanks again Craig for opening my mind and seeing ad group creation from a totally new perspective!

Wish you the best,

PPC Classroom 2.0 Live on USTREAM

A couple of weeks back PPC Classroom Live was here in Las Vegas. I had the opportunity to meet Anik Singal briefly during his tour of Zappos.com and thank him for the awesome training from PPC Classroom 2.0. Unfortunately I wasn’t able to attend the live event this year, but I was able to see all the presentations!

ppc classroom 2.0That weekend I was on my computer for 16 hours straight working on some projects and thanks to USTREAM I was able to watch PPC Classroom Live …. Live from my home office!

How insane is that. This was actually a mindblowing experience for me and the first event I’ve ever attended from home. The upside was being able to get a lot of work done and still be able to attend the event and take notes. When everyone took a lunch break I had a 2 second walk to my kitchen.

Now here is the other side to this. Although I was able to jot down some notes like a maniac as I watched the speakers I completely missed out on meeting some of the incredible affiliate marketers that attended.

Networking is the most important part of attending events. Make every attempt to attend live events and for circumstances when you are pressed for time or your budgets tight go with the USTREAM option.

Have a great weekend!
