  • What Should I Blog About?
By Robert Avila on August 10th, 2009 | No Comments Comments

    What should I blog about?

This is a common question. All of us at some point have writer’s block at one time or another. If you are currently pondering this question “What should I blog about” I am willing to guess that it may be the one thing that is holding you back from getting your Internet Marketing business started.

Quit asking yourself What should I blog about and just get started writing. You already know exactly what to blog about because it’s already inside of you.

In just a few minutes I am going to share with you and idea…. a new way of looking at things … a new belief to get you started.

When I was faced with the question of What should I blog about? and went weeks even months without finding an answer this is what I did.

I looked at my beliefs surrounding this question and realized I was stuck on the outcome. I was thinking of what brilliant earth shattering information could I possibly share? I was stuck and frustrated. I had no idea what to blog about. It was like that movie “A Beautiful Mind” where the actor Russell Crowe was in search of that one original idea.

Striving for perfection is a great if it inspires you to produce great content. When you feel as though what you write has to be perfect and brilliant then you aren’t going to write anything. If you are thinking of the perfect thing to write … you are thinking and not writing!

This is the belief I adopted that ended several months of never updating my blog.

“Who cares what I write. I am going to think of my blog as a collection of my favorites. My blog will be a place I can always reference to find cool stuff I have learned and discovered over the years. It will be a place where I will share the answers to questions I struggled to find. My blog will be a place of inspiration for others who share the same interests and hopefully what I write will be of value and help others too.”

Take the pressure off yourself. Share what’s important to you and what life is like through your eyes. Your writing style will develop over time and your posts will flow smoothly with experience.

I personally looked at my blog and said “Would I enjoy visiting my blog?” and the knee jerk reaction was No!

Once I formed this new belief, blogging became fun and It was no longer work.

It was no longer a have to. It became something I wanted to do. Now when I ask that same question, without hesitation the answer is Yes! – Yes, I would visit my blog and enjoy the content.

Start by writing what interests you and forget amount monetizing it and how many daily unique visitors you are getting. Over time you will develop your style and engage with your readers by answering their questions.

Once you have reached the point of writing consistently about what your readers are asking for then you have a real opportunity to make a difference by sharing what you know.

The first step is enjoying the process and being consistent. You may slip up here and there, however get back at it until you form a new habit of enjoying the time you spend writing on your blog. In time your focus and passion will reveal itself. You will begin to notice what topics a majority of your posts are focused on.

Monetizing your blog and optimizing it will come with time …. Focus on enjoying the process of writing first.

  • Robert G. Allen – Multiple Streams of Internet Income
By Robert Avila on June 17th, 2009 | No Comments Comments

During the fall of 2007 I was reading Robert G. Allen’s book – “Mulitple Streams of Internet Income”, and it completely transformed the course of my life.

I can still remember reading his book and reaching a page that mentioned going to the computer and setting up a free website in less than 10 minutes. After reading that passage my inclination was to put it off and do it tomorrow. As I read further down the page Robert reiterated, if you haven’t set up your site …. do it now.

Robert G AllenWell I got off my butt and just like he had said within less than 10 minutes I had a website. Today that site no longer exists but I remember it was a site with hundreds of products similar to Best Buy. This site allowed the name of the store to be customized as well as the color scheme and logo. The objective was to drive visitors to the site and earn commissions when visitors purchased from the site.

The big lesson here was to Take Immediate Action.

After setting up that site, I remember going into work the next day and being so proud of “having a website”. I was telling eveyone about it. The site was very clean for being a template and it made me look like a genius even though I didn’t know anything about web design or Internet Marketing.

When you take action and produce something it’s the greatest feeling. Even though I hadn’t make one penny I felt like a million bucks!

This experience set off a chain of events that lead me to learn everything I could about Internet Marketing, SEO, Paid Search and Affiliate Marketing.

Below is an except from Robert G. Allen’s book – “Multiple Streams of Internet Income” Reading this intro had me hooked from the first sentence. By the time I was finished reading this it was game over! – I had finally discovered what I wanted to do with my life.

Imagine making money while you sleep. Imagine waking up richer every morning than when you went to bed the night before.

Imagine receiving streams of money from people all over the world.

Imagine a business that operates on autopilot- whether you show up or not.

Imagine low overhead and high profits.

Imagine operating your business from exotic worldwide locations – from a cell phone on the beach in Tahiti or from your laptop in a restaurant atop the Eiffel Tower.

If you can imagine these things, you can achieve them using the vehicle of the Internet.” – Robert G. Allen

    Step One: Stretch Your Vision

    Step Two: Take Action

    Wish you the best,

    Robert Avila

PS. The book in the image is actually another one of Robert’s books. The one I am discussing in this post is titled “Multiple Streams of Internet Income” and has been revised so the cover will look a little different.

  • Internet Marketing Deadlines
By Robert Avila on December 1st, 2007 | No Comments Comments

I was recently talking with someone about making their online business more efficient.

Sometimes it can be a challenge starting an online business and working from home.

Avoiding distractions, setting work hours, setting deadlines and making a profit online are just a few of the challenges many of us face.

When starting out….. Make Sure You Have A Plan.

I have a friend that is currently working on launching an online business. Now I think very highly of my friend and know he has what it takes, I see the market potential, I see the work involved in launching the site, I see the challenges ahead…but the one thing I don’t see is a business plan with deadlines!

The result – This “launch” has been in the works for nearly 5 years now!

There is even talk of a “bricks and mortar” store being unveiled.

    How can this happen?

Last year….maybe even 2 years ago there was discussion about choosing the design for a gift card.

A Gift Card? A What?……Yeah….a gift card for a website that doesn’t exist yet.

Gift Cards and physical locations to compliment a website that isn’t live yet.

In any business there needs to be a vision. Having a vision of gift cards…multiple bricks and mortar locations all of that is a great thing.

One needs to know what the end result looks like. If you don’t know where you are going it will never happen.

    However….

You can’t do everything right now. You can’t focus on everything and ever see any measurable results.

Everything has it’s time in place along the continuum.

Have the big vision…and also have the pieces laid out in a logical fashion.

Focus on what’s important right now. Don’t jump ahead.

Don’t plan what celebrities will endorse your product when you haven’t even registered a domain name yet =)

When setting your deadlines, do your best. You can always make adjustments. You may not know exactly how long each step will take. That will come from experience. Don’t let not knowing how long something will take prevent you from laying out a plan with deadlines.

A open ended deadline will postpone your success.

    Specific goals get specific results.

    Wish you the best!
